Ubud is where you will find the huge traditional market opposite the palace. Here are the shops, many restaurants, art galleries and museums. There are Internet cafes and phones. If you ask Yandira to take you, he will show you how to bargain. He also knows my favourite restaurants.

Day Tours Yandira can also take you on many different day tours to explore the country side, temples, volcanoes, lakes and many other places. Bali has so much that is stunningly beautiful and interesting to see. For those interested, he can arrange superb river rafting and having grown up in the area, he knows some great walks.

Hardly a day goes past when there isn’t a colourful ceremony somewhere.

In the evening, Yandira can take you into Ubud for dinner, before or after seeing a Dance Performance. A Schedule of Performances is available in your room with other information and maps.

Highly Recommended Dance Performances
Day Performance Time Village
Sunday Jegog Bamboo Gamelan 7pm Bentuyung village
Monday Kecak (Monkey Dance) and Fire dance 7pm Junjungan village
Tuesday Spirit of Bali 7:30pm Kutuh village
There is something of interest on every night

Favourite Restaurants:

Taman Rahasia (The Secret Garden)
is just a stroll down the path towards the village of Penestanan. The food is delicious for lunch or dinner. It also has a Spa which offers healing massages.

Pesto Café to the right at the bottom of the Campuan steps on the way into Ubud.

Batan Waru on Jalan Dewi Sita (the road connecting Jln Hanuman and Jln Monkey Forest along the top of the football field.

There are many more restaurants and part of the fun of Bali is finding your own special places.

The Ubud Clinic, with doctors on duty 24 hours a day, is just past the bridge in Campuan which you cross on your way into Ubud.

Kadek is the resident “ pembantu” who looks after you and makes sure you are comfortable and have everything you need. He can take your laundry into Ubud and bring it back the next day. Costs are extremely reasonable.

Wayan Dira - “ Yandira” is the driver who meets you at Denpasar airport when you arrive, and drives you along interesting back roads for an hour up into the cooler hills, far away from the touristy areas of Kuta and Denpasar.. He is a knowledgeable and friendly young man who speaks English and has many years of driving experience.

There is also a gardener and night - security.
